No fewer than two persons were feared dead on Thursday, when rival cult groups engaged in a deadly clash at the Osun State College of Technology, located in Esa Oke (OSCOTECH) of Obokun local government area of the state, Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered.
Findings by our correspondent indicated that the hostility, which began on Wednesday between members of Aye and Alora cult groups spilt over to Thursday as dangerous weapons such as guns, axes and machetes were freely used during the violent clashes.
Though the actual cause of the fight could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, some students of the institution, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune under condition of anonymity said the development was a fallout of misgivings over female person, who was said to be girlfriend to one of the cultist members.
According to one of the students, the tension generated by the clash led to the commotion as students, staffers and some residents around the college scampered for safety to avoid being caught up in the melee.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Osun State Police command, Mrs Folasade Odoro said she needed to get details of the incident from the Police Division in Esa Oke community and the management of the institution before any comment could be made on the incident.
But, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State command, Mr Babawale Afolabi confirmed the clash but said one person was confirmed dead, while the other victim was in critical condition in an undisclosed medical facility.
