A total of 1,629 Corps members posted to Gombe State for the compulsory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme under the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream two have commenced orientation at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp located at Government Science Technical College, Amada, in Akko Local Government Area.
The Corps members were officially sworn in during a ceremony presided over by the Chief Judge of the state, represented by High Court Judge, Justice Zainab Abdulkadir Rasheed.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, welcomed the Corps members to the state and urged them to adapt to their host communities by embracing values of discipline, patriotism, and selfless service.
The Governor acknowledged the critical role Corps members play in service delivery across the state’s key sectors, assuring them of the government’s commitment to improving their welfare and the conditions of the camp.
According to him, “Gombe has over the years largely depended on Corps members for service delivery/manpower in our various sectors of the economy.”
He encouraged the 2025 batch to distinguish themselves through excellent performance, exceeding the efforts of previous sets. He also stressed the importance of learning local languages to help bridge cultural and communication gaps, and called on Gombe indigenes to welcome and support the Corps members.
“Let me observe that your religion, beliefs, language are not the general laws of nature,” he added.

In her welcome address, the NYSC Gombe State Coordinator, Chinwe Nnenna Nwachuku, expressed gratitude to God and the state government, but raised concern over a recent windstorm that destroyed key camp infrastructure.
“It is with tears in my eyes that I bring to your attention, the destruction of our multipurpose pavilion and some hostels,” she lamented, appealing for urgent state intervention to ensure the safety and comfort of Corps members.
She also reminded the Corps members of the four key phases of the service year—Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and the Passing Out Ceremony—urging them to maximise the opportunity for personal growth and meaningful national contribution.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top government functionaries including commissioners, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Kasimu Abdullah, permanent secretaries, heads of parastatals, security and paramilitary agencies, as well as traditional leaders, according to a statement issued by Jack A. Tasha, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity (Deputy Governor’s Office).
