Defence officers’ wives crucial to success of Nigeria’s security ―Olubadan

THE Olubadan of Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji Ogungunniso I has described as very crucial and important the support of wives of Nigerian defence and security officers to the success of territorial insurgencies in the country.

Oba Adetunji stated this on Wednesday when the President of Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) who is also the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin paid him a courtesy visit with members of DEPOWA at his Popoyemoja palace.

Olubadan who spoke through his Personal Assistant and Director of Media, Adeola Oloko stated that “If we’re fighting war against Boko Haram and other insurgencies, but most of you who are wives of officers of security agencies are not giving your husbands’ or spouses sufficient support, how well will those wars be prosecuted with resounding success? How would some of us who are sleeping with our two eyes closed be able to sleep and snore?

“Your support is very dear to their gallant effort on the war front. This is why I said that you are all very, very important in the defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria. I want you to know that my palace has always been friendly with Nigerian Army and other security agencies since I assumed the throne. I see every one of you as my daughters, I am very proud to be associated with you.
The traditional ruler then appreciated Mrs Olonisakin for her contribution towards the development of Ibadan. He then described her as a proud daughter of Ibadan, a quality Olabadan said earned her the award from the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) today (Thursday) at the on-going 2018 Ibadan festival cultural week.

In her response, Mrs Olonisakin who gladly relished her upbringing at Aremo area Ibadan, informed the Olubadan that as “a proud daughter of the traditional monarch and Ibadanland, she deems it fit to pay homage “to the Olubadan as a mark of honour and to seek his royal blessing and advice as she has come to take up the ‘prestigious award.’

Earlier, the President of DEPOWA had led other members to donate items worth thousands of naira to Jesus Kids Home for the Disabled at No. 18 Ifelodun Street, Monatan Iwo Road, Ibadan.

Items donated include: about 20 pieces of mattresses, food items, toiletries, food items, beverages among others.

Speaking during the presentation, Mrs Olonisakin urged well-placed individuals in Nigeria to focus more on the less privileged by coming around to donate more items to the needy in the society to make them proud and ease their sufferings.

The proprietor of the Home, Pastor (Mrs) Ololade Adamolekun thanked the DEPOWA President for deeming it fit to locate the home in the remote area of the city and donated the huge gift.

Mrs Adamolekun said “I am highly dazed by the quantity of goods donated to us by DEPOWA as led by their president, Mrs Olonisakin. I can tell you that is the highest we have received in recent time. This makes me more than happy because it will in no small measure ease our stress of going cap in hand to get materials to keep up with doing our passion here.”
