Zulum, Wamakko, FPRO Adejobi, Okinbaloye, 33 others recognised as prominent Nigerians

In recognition of their contributions to the nation’s growth and development, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Police Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, former Health Commissioner Dr. Sola Pitan, and Nigeria’s Minister Bello Mohammed are among those who received the 2024 Prominent People’s Awards (POPA).

Others honored at the awards ceremony held recently in Abuja include former Oyo lawmaker Honourable Seyi Adisa; former Oyo Commissioner Professor Abdulrahman Afonja; musician Abolore Akande, popularly known as 9ice; and media personalities Seun Okinbaloye and Ibrahim Shitta.

Also awarded were Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Chief Saheed Oladele (who received the Education Icon Award), Raji Adewale, a land surveyor, and humanitarian Tolu Taiwo.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ajibola Afolayan, Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Media (the organizers of the awards), stated that the awards aim to complement the federal government’s efforts in appreciating and celebrating deserving Nigerians.

He noted that the 2024 edition, titled “Achievers Diary,” continues to emphasize the belief that both the government and citizens must play their roles in the progress and development of Nigeria.

Afolayan highlighted the need to recognize Nigerians who contribute their resources to productive activities, thereby improving not just themselves but the nation as a whole.

He said, “Many Nigerians have made significant contributions to the growth and development of the nation, yet they remain unrecognized due to their limited visibility to coordinating agencies or a lack of recommendations from the appropriate authorities.

They work in various sectors, including coal mining, oil and gas exploration, chemical engineering, civil, mechanical, industrial, and structural engineering, architecture, town planning, surveying, ICT management, administration, law, policing, military service, and the arts, to ensure steady economic growth, peace, and orderliness in society.

“These efforts enhance Nigeria’s international trade status, resulting in surplus and benefiting the entire citizenry. Hence, this award is to appreciate and recognize their contributions.”
