Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Friday, commissioned six projects in Biu and Kwaya-Kusar Local Government Areas, as part of his ongoing tour of the southern part of the state.
The projects include a 60-classroom Islamic college, aimed at combating violent extremism and providing formal education to Almajiri pupils. The college integrates the Tsangaya education system with modern practices.
Gombe Governor, Mohammed Inuwa Yahya, performed the symbolic tape-cutting at the High Islamic College commissioning.
Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring no child is left behind, regardless of educational background. He pledged to establish one higher Islamic college in each of the state’s 27 local government areas.
To improve teachers’ welfare, Zulum commissioned 10 units of two-bedroom semi-detached bungalow houses and directed the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation to prioritize rehabilitation and construction of staff quarters in the 2025 budget.
Other commissioned projects include an ICT centre in Biryel, two government lodges in Kwaya-Kusar and Bayo Local Government Areas, and a comprehensive primary healthcare centre in Fikayel, Bayo Local Government Area.
Zulum also distributed bicycles to pupils from villages to facilitate easy transportation.
