‘Zoning of Deputy Speaker to South-East ridiculous’

The zoning of the Deputy Speaker position in the House of Representatives to the South-East region of the country has been described as highly ridiculous.

Making the description was a political commentator and US-based businessman, David Adodo, while reacting to the zoning arrangement for the leadership positions in the National Assembly by the national leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Adodo, posited that:”For the record I am not from the South-East neither am I competent to speak for the south east. I speak on the basis of a concerned Nigeria who understands the ethos of the politics of a multi plural society.

“An attempt to shove the deputy speakership down the throat of the South-East is a non starter and must be wholesomely rejected by all peace loving citizens of our great country.

“The marginalisation of the south east in this political dispensation is capable of crippling our nascent democratic process if immediate steps are not taken to remedy the situation. South east is an integral part of the pillars that holds Nigeria together and must be embraced, treated and respected as such irrespective of the political value they bring to bear in our political discuss.”

He further stated that now that elections are over, the President-elect now has all regions of the country as his constituency. He cannot and must not be seeing as favouring one region over another as that will be viewed as discriminatory and distasteful.

“As an astute politician, the president elect must be careful on how he stares the affairs of this great country. He must be democratic and respectful of the fundamental principles of separation of powers else he will be seen as dictatorial in a democracy. He must be skillful in navigating the pit-holes of the office.” Adodo concluded.
