Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made it clear that Ukraine will not accept any peace agreements between the US and Russia unless the country is directly involved in the negotiations.
Speaking to the press earlier today, Zelenskyy addressed his recent conversation with former President Donald Trump, which took place after Trump’s call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He underscored the necessity of Ukraine’s participation in any discussions surrounding peace.
While Zelenskyy confirmed that NATO membership was not mentioned in his call with Trump, he acknowledged that the US remains opposed to Ukraine joining the military alliance.
“Today, it’s crucial that everything does not follow Putin’s plan, in which he aims to conduct bilateral negotiations with the US,” Zelenskyy remarked.
Despite Trump’s optimism about securing a peace deal, his comments suggest early concessions to Putin, including the view that it would be unrealistic for Ukraine to join NATO and unlikely that Ukraine will fully reclaim all its occupied territories.
