Zamfara Red Cross affirms commitment to humanitarian service

The Nigerian Red Cross Society Zamfara state branch has disclosed that their commitment to humanitarian service would not be compromised, as members and volunteers say service to the community remains their utmost priority.

Speaking on Wednesday, shortly after a rally to mark the celebration of World Red Cross Day in Gusau, the state capital, Zamfara state branch Secretary Ibrahim Bello Garba said the Red Cross in Zamfara is growing with its humanitarian services to every nook and cranny of the state.

The branch secretary, Ibrahim Bello, further maintained that the Zamfara state branch is growing from strength to strength as the number of members and volunteers registered in the state increases.

According to him, in the year 2019, the Red Cross Society in Zamfara State registered about six hundred (600) volunteers across eleven (11) LGAs and some selected schools, and in 2020, the number of registered volunteers and members had risen to about eight hundred (800).

He said the Branch EFAT responded on a daily basis to the spontaneous road crashes along the Kaura Namoda, Talata Mafara, and Tsafe Roads axes, as well as within the Gusau Metropolis.

“A total of over ten thousand five hundred (10,500) people received different disaster response and mitigation support in the year 2023.”

He said the branch maintained its weekly first aid lectures and training in all fourteen (14) divisions, school units, and open detachments across the state.

Meanwhile, activities to mark the celebration of World Red Cross Day were lined up by the Zamfara state branch, which included fumigation to some areas in Gusau, the state capital, a novelty football match, demonstrations of first aid to school pupils, and community sensitization, among others in the state.
