AT least 15 of the 22 farmers that were declared missing after a canoe capsized in a river in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been found to be alive.
Findings by the Arewa revealed that 7 farmers are still missing even as search for them had been intensified since the incident happened.
It was learnt that the canoe was overloaded as it was meant for only 10 persons, but the 22 farmers were ferried in the canoe.
It was also gathered that the farmers were returning from their farms when the incident occurred around 1.30pm on that fateful day.
A senior district head of Gummi Emirate, Alhaji Bala Abubakar Gamo, said 15 of the 22 farmers had been found, while the search for the remaining seven was being intensified.
Meanwhile, the state government has already sent condolence to the families of the those believed to have lost their loved ones.
In a statement signed by the governor’s spokesman, Ibrahim Dosara, he implored people to be cautious when they were crossing over the river in canoes.
