Zamfara by-election: APC drags INEC, IGP to court

Published by

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has concluded plan to file a suit in court against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) over Bakura constituency supplementary by-election in the state.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday at APC Secretariat in Gusau, chairman, publicity committee of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Magaji said INEC didn’t recognize APC as a major stakeholder in Bakura constituency by-election, adding that there was insecurity during the by-election.

“INEC didn’t take into cognizance APC’s critical role as a major stakeholder in the exercise and therefore went so low to finish the dirty job it started and that is what informed our decision not to participate in the supplementary election.”

Birnin Magaji revealed that during the by-election held on December 5, votes of some wards were cancelled during the collation exercise by INEC.

According to him, the results of over 30 polling units and voting points in Rini, Birnin Tudu, Bakura and Yargeda wards were cancelled.

He further explained that APC decided to pull out of the supplementary election in Bakura for the safety of lives and property of all the citizens.

He maintained that: “It is pertinent to know that APC and INEC will meet in a court of law to sort out things as part Bakura Local government State Assembly by-election and supplementary election of December 5 and 9, 2020 respectively.”
