Zamfara APC crisis, group chides Yari for complicity

AMIDST the ongoing legal tussle rocking the Zamfara State Chapter of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), a group known as ‘Concerned Zamfara Youth’, has accused the State Governor, Abdul’Aziz Yari, of an attempt to undermine the judiciary and subvert the rule of law.

In a press statement issued Tuesday in Abuja and copies made available to news men in Bauchi, the Chairman of the Group, Comrade Sani Bala, alleged that the Governor is doing all he could to influence the upcoming Appeal Court judgement.

He explained that Yari’s recent release of a campaign time table and the subsequent flag off the campaign yesterday at Kauran Namoda and Birnin Magaji before the judgement and final acceptance of the candidates by the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is tantamount to contempt of court by the Governor and his anointed candidates.

‘’We all know that there was no primary elections held in Zamfara and both the INEC and the APC who are mandated to monitor and conduct the primaries have testified before the Federal High Court that, they did not witness any election in the state. Consequently, INEC would not accept any name submitted by the Yari’s led charade and mimicry pending the appeal court’s judgments”, he said.

The Group also said that it is a brazen abuse and disrespect for the judiciary for Governor Yari to start campaigning and canvassing support for his candidate, Mukhtar Shehu, and others who have not been accepted and recognized by INEC.

He stated that, ‘’Yari has tried to use the Zamfara State High Court to impose his candidates through concocted judgement and the Federal High Court in Abuja has passed a contradictory judgement while INEC has equally affirmed its previous position that Zamfara APC has no accepted candidates. Yet the Governor has been scheming to secure or influence the judgement and his ongoing campaigns and recognition of his candidates have justified the fact that there is something fishy and shady.’’

Sani Bala further demands the need to put an eagle eye on the prevailing happenings while warning that, the good people of the state would not in any way accept a manipulated judgement.

He then called on INEC, the presidency, and the judiciary “to do the needful to defend the interest of the people of Zamfara State by legally stopping any imposition of those who watch our people being massacred, kidnapped, and raped with impunity”.
