Zamfara: ACReSAL establishes environmental clubs in 30 schools

The Zamfara state Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape Project (ACReSAL) has established an environmental conservation club across 30 schools, aiming to promote eco-friendly practices in the state.

The ACReSAL project in collaboration with focal NGO Health Standard has taken a significant step towards promoting environmental conservation among young school children across the 2 catchments in three local government areas in the state.

During the inauguration ceremony held at Sambo Secondary School in Gusau, the HESCO program manager on Land degradation and environmental conservation Murtala Iliyasu stressed the objectives, activities, structure, benefits, roles, and responsibilities of the environmental conservation club in the schools.

According to him, in each of 2 catchments of 3 local Government Areas,(Bungudu, Kaura Namoda, Gusau)10 schools were selected to participate in the program, with a total of 30 schools, that includes senior secondary, Junior secondary and primary schools.

The HESCO program manager explained that the activities of the clubs will include tree planting, clean-up initiatives, environmental awareness campaigns, and promoting eco-friendly practices within the school and surrounding communities.

ACReSAL Project Coordinator in the state of Nasiruddeen Bello emphasised the importance of environmental conservation, stating, the ACRESAL project is committed to promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship among young people.

Also, the project consultant, Dr Baba Zakariyau said the clubs will play a vital role in achieving the ACReSAL project goal which he believes is a direction toward empowering students.

“We believe that it will not only benefit the environment but also provide our students with valuable skills and knowledge,” he stated.
