Yuletide: Remember people around you, affluent Nigerians urged

Affluent Nigerians have been charged to use the occasion of the yuletide to remember those around them and put smiles on their faces.

A US-based business icon and humanitarian, Mrs. Doris Folake-Uche Ogunmakin, handed down this advice on Wednesday in Amuzukwu Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, when she donated various food items and cash to put smiles on the faces of the community, stating that giving to people in need is a source of more blessings from God.

Represented by her mother, Barr Nkem Uche, Ogunmakin reminded the well-to-do in the society that “showing love to those that deserve it attracts lots of divine blessings and should not be tired of doing so”.

Recall that Ogunmakin has been doing this for the Amuzukwu Ibeku community every year for a while, and during the COVID-19 era, alleviated the people’s suffering through medical outreach and donation of food material to cushion the effects of the pandemic.

She has also been sponsoring empowerment initiatives for both indigenous and non-indigenes alike, stating, “showing love does not need discrimination”.

Addressing his subjects during the occasion, the traditional ruler of Amuzukwu community, Eze John Onyebuchi Ibezim, the Ugwu I of Amuzukwu Ibeku extolled the family of High Chief Uche James Akwukwaegbu, popularly known by his business name, BAWAS and the father of Folake “over what the family has been doing for the Amuzukwu people,” and prayed God to continue to bless the family the more.

In his speech, the father of Ogunmakin, High Chief Uche James Akwukwaegbu, (BAWAS) informed the people that the occasion was prompted by his daughter, Doris Folake-Uche Ogunmakin and her husband, adding that Mrs. Ogunmakin has done much to humanity, especially the people and residents of Amuzukwu Ibeku community.

Bawas emphasized that his daughter’s gesture is not political but born out of her desire to better the lot of humanity, stating that “it has become a yearly ritual”.

In their various speeches, the President General of Amuzukwu Ibeku, Chief Jerry Onyemachi and the President General of Ibeku Egwu Asaa Development Association (IEADA) women wing, who is also the wife of the former governor of the state, Mrs Mercy Odochi Orji, who was represented by the First Vice chair lady, Lady Chinyere Ibe commended the humanitarian initiative of Mrs. Ogunmakin, stating that the joy put on the faces of the beneficiaries and their thanksgiving is a blessing to her.
