Yuletide: Enugu state indigenes in Bauchi get free ride home

Enugu State indigenes resident in Bauchi state have been offered free bus rides to go home for the Christmas and New Year celebrations courtesy of the Enugu state government just as Leaders in different spheres of authority in the country have been called upon to give more priority and attention to the plight of the citizens in order to better their lives.

The free buses which came all the way from Enugu have started conveying the indigenes to Enugu from where they will find their ways to their respective places for the celebrations.

The free ride was provided by the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, to indigenes travelling for the Yuletide with some of the beneficiaries of the gesture commending the Governor for the initiative saying it was timely and would help them save money to meet some other needs.

A Corp Member who was one of the beneficiaries of the free bus ride, Ogbonna serving in Bauchi state since February 2019, said that he was thinking of how to travel home for the Christmas until he heard of the free ride.

He said that “As the Christmas was approaching, I started thinking of how to travel to celebrate with my family and loved ones, then, I heard that my Governor brought a vehicle for all those in Bauchi so they can travel with”.

The Corps member added that “I am lucky to be a beneficiary of this free ride and I learnt that he has been doing this for some time now and I pray that he continues doing this because it saves people a lot of stress and money. Other Governors should emulate this because so many people are stranded”.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Dorathy Illoh, a businesswoman who has been resident in Bauchi for over 25 years expressed appreciation for sustaining the gesture for three consecutive years running saying, “This year’s free ride is the best because you can see that it is a very big luxurious bus that he gave us this year and we will remain grateful to him”.

She added that “At times, we don’t have money to meet our basic needs let alone thinking of travelling but with this, we are able to travel comfortably at no cost.”

The President of the Enugu State Community in Bauchi, Chief Emeka Ekwueme, said that the gesture was part of the dividends of democracy from the Enugu State Governor which is extended to those residing in Bauchi.

He assured the Governor of their total support to his administration describing him as a God-sent to Enugu State stating that “we owe him prayers do that he can succeed.

He said: “Our Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, gave Enugu State Community Bauchi a bus to transport our people for the Christmas celebration.

Emeka Ekwueme concluded that “Since the beginning of his tenure as Governor of Enugu State, he has been doing this to the Enugu State Community in Bauchi. This is the third time he is doing this to us and we are targeting over 64 people to convey down to Enugu.”
