The lawmaker representing Irepodun/ Ifelodun consituency II in Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hakeem Jamiu has presented food items and cash gifts to constituents in this spirit of the yuletide.

Speaking while handling the bags of rice and cash gifts to the beneficiaries at the weekend, Jamiu said the gesture was to help lighten the hardship and burden people faced during the yuletide period.

The former Deputy Speaker in the 6th Assembly stated that the beneficiaries were selected from across the 11 towns in the constituency including Awo, Igbemo, Esure, Iworoko, Orun, Are, Afao, Iropora, Ilamo, Eyio and Araromi Obbo.

He said that gesture is a way for him to give back to his constituents who gave him their mandate willingly across party affiliations in the last general elections.

He explained that the efforts was in fulfilment of the promise made during his electioneering campaign, assuring that he would not relent in giving support to his constituency.

The lawmaker thanked the constituents for their overwhelming support given to him during the election, saying his return to the Assembly was historic as he was the first lawmaker to be re-elected in the constituency.

He said, “It is my own little way of giving back to my consituency. This gesture is to appreciate the people for their support during the last general election.

“I’m the first person to return in Irepodun /Ifelodun constituency II and I’m also the first Deputy Speaker to even finish in the House. So, I’m here to thank them for making that possible. I’m here to show that I care and I don’t take their support for granted.

“Apart from that, it is our agenda in the 7th Assembly that we need to engage more with our constituents. And this is the first time I’m engaging with them in my second tenure, especially during this yuletide when things are very difficult.

“We have been doing this before because they really love me and I want to show my gratitude and appreciation. That’s why I’m doing it.”

Jamiu restated his commitment to better lives of his constituents through timely engagement and implementation of life-changing programmes that would bring a new lease of life to them.

He called on them to continue to support Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s effort to take Ekiti state to a greater height, saying the current administration was committed to transform the state.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Iyabowale Fakanle appreciated the lawmaker’s gesture, saying the people of the constituency II had never had it this good.

He called for prayers and support of the people of the constituency for Jamiu to succeed in bringing more dividends of democracy to their doorsteps.
