RAMPAGING youths have hacked a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Aaron Sunday, to death, during the outbreak of a bloody clash on Friday evening.

The officer, who was attached to the Kpakungu Divisional Headquarters, on the outskirts of Minna, the Niger State capital, was killed in a tragic incident that occured at Barke Saleh.

A report on Saturday claimed that arm, ammunition and charms were recovered at the scene of the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Bala Elkana, in an interview with Sunday Tribune at the Command Headquarters Minna, confirmed the incident.

Elkana said the  incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. when  the deceased, who was, until his murder, Divisional Crime Officer, responded to a distress call over  a breach of peace in the area by the youths.

They were  said to be weilding dangerous weapons and attacking innocent citizens in the community.

Sunday Tribune learnt that DSP Aaron  was severely cut both on the head and thighs with sharp objects suspected to be cutlasses by the youths when the police patrol team arrived the scene  to appeal to the hoodlums.

His death  was attributed to excessive bleeding shortly after the attack.

The Police spokesman told Sunday Tribune that no fewer than about 13 persons, arrested in connection with the incident, were presently being detained at the State Criminals Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Minna.

“The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police, Mr Suberu Muazu, has issued a standing order to all the Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders across the state to effect the arrest of any group of persons, especially youths, that are gathering together in an attempt to cause a breach of the public peace,” Elkana said.

He stated that the police would “not allow a few misguided elements to take laws into their hands by attacking innocent citizens unjustifiably.”

He enjoined parents and guardians in the state to prevail on their children and wards against joining bad peers.

Meanwhile, the corpse of the senior police officer has been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Minna.
