Letters

Youth and Facebook

Published by

I am writing this letter believing that the youth of this country would benefit from it. I was brought up to always rise against what is not right in my environment. In the process, I have suffered blackmail and undue harassment by my schoolmates.

Armed herdsmen set Gov Ortom’s 250 hectres rice farm set on fire

They would always accuse me of poking my nose into their affairs. If they see this letter same way, I won’t be surprised. I have lately observed that the youths are not using social media for positive interests. Instead, they see it, especially facebook, as a tool to enjoy unlimited freedom.

They write so many disgusting things that make one to be afraid of their future. There are different groups formed by users of facebook and these groups serve different purposes. It is unfortunate that some of these purposes don’t protect the future of the youths.

For instance, there is a group of members, where all they exchange are vulgar messages and other immoral contents. Many youths find these groups attractive because they meet their desires and encourage them to exercise their so-called freedom of expression. I am sincerely appealing to them to understand that their future must be more important to them than whatever they think they enjoy today.

They should try as much as possible to find better purpose for social media. There are so many education-based sites where the youths can learn and add to their knowledge.

Education nowadays has gone beyond four walls of classroom, so they should take advantage offered by social media to be better students instead of using it instrument of immorality. I want to believe my advice would reach the right ears. If otherwise, I still owe nobody apology because doing what is right has no alternative. May God help all of us as we take these words of advice.
