You have failed to identify Nigerian needs, Bishop tells leaders

The Bishop of Diocese of Owo,  Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Revd Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi, has said the country would perpetually struggling to survive until its leaders sincerly to identify sincerly with the people, he said they should first undrestand the agitation of Nigerian people and proffer appropriate solutions to the challenges confronting the nation.

Fagbemi, who stated this during the 3rd Session of the 12th Synod of the diocese of Owo, said the way forward was the enthronment of would leaders who understood the problems of its people and were willing to proceed effective solution to the problems regardless of how one section of the country might feel about it.

“It is a matter of great concern that our dear country continues to suffer from all kind of of problems, most of which are self inflicted.

“While many countries that gained independence about the same time with us have since settled down,  we have continued to struggle to the extent that sustainable development remains a mirage. Some 18 years after the military incursion into our politics, we have not made any significant progress.

“Politicians break their covenant at will,  the rights of the ordinary citizens are not respected or upheld. The poor continues to wallow in poverty. Corruption continues to increase, even though our government claims to be fighting corruption.”

He appealed to Federal government not to relent in its anti corruption crusade but expressed his doubt over the sincerity of the fight against corruption.

Fagbemi noted that the United States assessment on President Buhari’s fight against corruption confirmed that corruption in the country as a result of Buhari’s administration to implement laws against such practices.
