About 3000 youths will undergo agricultural training in the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit for Agricultural Advancement (YESAA) in the areas of livestock management, agricultural machineries among others.
This was disclosed by the the organisers of YESAA during the just concluded Agrikexpo held in Abuja which over 50 youths were trained along the various agricultural value chains.
Speaking with Nigerian Tribune at the training exercise, one of the organisers and the Executive director of 151 products, Mr Henry Anario said that the training will accommodate students and unemployed youths in the rural area.
According to him “it is an initiative developed to attract and empower the youths to be productively involved in agriculture.
He pointed out that most youths find agriculture unattractive due to the perceived stress in farming, unavailability of land, lack of fund and high interest rate of bank lending.”
He, however said the training will equip the youths with knowledge to engage in agriculture, assist them financially through the private sector to start up their own farms.
Anario further said that experts were brought across the globe to train the youths in various areas of the agricultural value chains and other components of Agriculture.
Also, the Coordinator, Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG), Emmanuel Ijewere in an interview, harped on the need to involve the youths actively in agriculture.
“There is need for Nigeria to redirect it’s position and we cannot redirect it without carrying the future along with and the youths are the future, we are very happy to have them and the enthusiasm they have shown so far shows that Nigeria has a great future in agriculture and agribusiness,” he said.
