Ycee surfs his ‘First Wave’

Ycee, real names Oludemilade Martin Alejo, has dropped his debut album titled ‘The First Wave’. The Nigerian rapper and songwriter who raps in Pidgin English, English and Yoruba language came into limelight in 2015 with his hit song ‘Jagaban’ and after one of his singles titled ‘Condo’ which featured vocals from Patoranking which won him two nominations at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He was also nominated in the ‘Best Artist in African Pop’ category at the 2015 All Africa Music Awards.

 

Biography

YCEE was born in Festac Town, a town in Lagos State, Nigeria where he completed his basic at Dr. Soyemi Memorial Nursery and Primary School. His secondary school education was at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo.

He started his music career in 2012 as an underground rapper until he signed his first music contract under Tinny Entertainment. Due to his educational engagements, he took time off music after gaining admission into the University of Lagos. In May 2015, Ycee made a comeback after releasing ‘Condo’ which was received to critical acclaim. ‘Condo’ was nominated in the ‘Best Collaboration of The Year’ and ‘Best Music Video of The Year’ categories at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. On 20 July 2015, he released a single titled ‘Jagaban’ which received massive airplays and made him more popular among music critics including Olamide who asked to be featured in the remix of the song. His career further hit the limelight after he was nominated in the ‘Revelation of the Year’ category at the 2015 edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards and was also nominated in the ‘Best Artist in African Pop’ category at the 2015 All Africa Music Awards. He also won the Rookie of the Year award at the 2015 Headies.

His signature style and swagger has earned him the status of one to watch and his album is a testament to his hard work. He is currently signed to Tinny Entertainment.
