Yakasai disowns ‘League of Northern Democrats’ formation

Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, former Special Adviser to the late President Shehu Shagari, has refuted a publication by Punch Newspaper online, which incorrectly listed him as a member of a new political group called “The League of Northern Democrats.”

In a statement issued on August 21, 2024, and made available to the press in Kano, Alhaji Yakasai clarified: “My attention has been drawn to a report by Punch Newspaper online that erroneously included my name as part of the new political group, ‘The League of Northern Democrats.'”

He further explained that he had been inundated with calls and messages from concerned Nigerians regarding his alleged membership in this group, which he does not belong to.

Alhaji Yakasai stated: “Although I did not initially intend to address this publication, the continuous inquiries from the public have made it necessary to clarify the situation.

“To set the record straight, I urge the general public to disregard the report by Punch Online Media, as I am not involved with the organisers or the organisation in question.”
