Xenophobic attacks: Level of destruction on Shoprite facilities uncalled for ― Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday condemned in very strong terms Shoprite facilities destroyed by hoodlums in the wake of xenophobic reprisals, as he visited those facilities in Sangotedo and Surulere areas of the state, describing the level of destruction as enormous and uncalled for.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Gbenga Omotoso; his counterpart in Commerce and Industries, Hon. (Mrs.) Lola Akande; the Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), DCP Olatunji Disu, among others, said this while speaking with newsmen after concluding the inspection of the Shoprite at Surulere, which was also looted by the hoodlums.

According to the governor, who was conducted round the facilities both at Sangotedo, the largest of it all that witnessed the biggest looting and destruction and the one at Surulere, by the management team, the attack was condemnable and unfortunate notwithstanding “whatever must have led to it.”

He said the attack was unfortunate as it was majorly against indigenous stores even by their names with thousands of Nigerian workers affected as they could not go to work now that their places of work had been destroyed.

The governor also visited the abandoned Lagos Home at Sangotedo, in Ibeju-Lekkki axis of the state.
