#XenophobiaInSouthAfrica: Adeboye calls for calm

GENERAL Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Wednesday, called on Nigerians to remain calm and eschew violence.

Violent reprisal protests against the wanton killing of Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa had started yesterday with the torching of some business outfits linked to the Madiba country in Lagos and Ibadan.

Protesters, in their numbers, continued with the anti-xenophobic protest across the country on Wednesday with security agents having a hectic day in dousing the tension.

Also, for fear of hoodlums’ rage, several outlets of Shoprite, MTN, Stanbic IBTC among others of South African origin, had hurriedly shut down or refused to open as of Wednesday across the country.

Pastor Adeboye, in his official Facebook handle on Wednesday afternoon, pleaded with Nigerians especially youths to shun retaliatory tendencies as there are consequences attached.

“Please shun violence; it’s dividends last a lifetime.

“Let us all embrace peace and remember that regardless of our race, colour or language, we are all of God,” the 77-year-oldy pleaded with #saynotoxenophobia?? attached to his plea.

The revered cleric has, severally in recent times, accused of keeping sealed lips in the face of boiling national issues.
