Deputy speaker of the Edo Assembly, Mrs Maria Edeko, on Thursday, eulogised teachers on the occasion of World Teachers Day, describing them as “nation builders”.
Mrs. Edeko in a goodwill message to the teachers stressed that no nation could develop without teachers, and urged the society to appreciate them.
The Edo State deputy speaker said that the world recognised the importance of teachers in shaping the future of the country, hence the need for support from all stakeholders.
She noted that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration had prioritised education in the state with the introduction of technology to teach the children.
Edeko further added that the government’s efforts in revamping the education sector by providing the necessary infrastructure and enhanced professional growth were to enable teachers to deliver quality education in the state.
“We recognise that teachers are the bedrock upon which the aspirations of future leaders are built, making their role indispensable to the progress of any society.
“Without teachers, some of us will not be where and what we are today and I pray that God will reward you and your families more and more,” she said.
According to her, no amount of commendation appreciation would actually be enough to pay for the immense sacrifice and contribution teachers make to the development of the nation.
