Would you submit to pre-marital genital test?

Temidayo, Oluwakemi, Moyosore and Adeleye

A few weeks ago, a memo was released by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), which stated that intending couples would be required to undergo genital tests. OLUWATOSIN ABODERIN spoke to unmarried people on whether they would be willing to submit to such requirement if the situation called for it.

Miss Adeleye Oyunniyi

It is very difficult though, but I think it’s for the benefit of the couple. When the test is conducted, whatever the result may be, it should be personal and not a topic of discussion in the church. This will enable the couple to know what the future holds for them. I’ll gladly submit myself for the test and also convince my partner to do the same. If there is an issue, there is the choice of either walking away or seek medical help.

Miss Temidayo Olateju

I’m a Muslim, but I won’t dispute the fact that pre-marital genital test is important. I agree with the church and will submit to the test if the need arises.

Miss Moyosore Famakinwa

Of course, I wouldn’t. I see no reason why any church should interfere in my affairs. What is personal should remain personal. If churches decide to take such steps, it might ruin many relationships. Even if there is an issue, and God wills that we stay together, no genital result will stop me from being with the one I love.

Miss Faith Ese Ogboru

Before my church even takes such a step, we must have been counseled on the reason for the test. So many people hide fertility challenges under the umbrella of not having sex before marriage. I will gladly take the test and encourage my partner to do same.

Olajuwon, Anuoluwapo, Faith and Segun

Mr Anuoluwapo Adewole

No church has the right to make pre-marital genital test a criterion. That will amount to an invasion of privacy. It doesn’t sound reasonable. The test should be a choice for the couple. Even if the church insists, I won’t do it.

Miss Olajuwon Quadri

As long as I intend to tie the knot in church, I will have to take the test if it is mandatory. Moreover, it’s not a bad idea. Everything about myself and my spouse should be intact. I will let the church do it, if only we’ve never had sexual intercourse before. However, if we’ve had it before, it’s not necessary anymore; If the church insists, we will have just the Registry wedding instead.

Mr Segun Oloyede

It’s good for the couple to submit to the test if the church requires it. The church expects nothing but integrity from both parties, as it relates to pre-marital sex; submit myself because of  the love that I have for my partner. If my spouse shows signs of reluctance, then she is obviously hiding something from me, and I would prefer we go our separate ways.

Miss Kehinde Orefisan

Yes, I will submit myself to the test if the church insists. I will advise those in Christ, who want to enjoy their marriage, to do the test. Whatever the result, that’s what I will take it to be.

Miss Oluwakemi Idowu

Yes, I will submit myself to the test. I know whatever the outcome may be it will be authentic and not forged.
