Would you endorse or engage in premarital sex to test compatibility?

Published by

In recent times, there has been a lot of complaints from couples who claim to be sexually incompatible after their wedding. To stem this trend, several youths engage in sexual activities with their partners before venturing into marriage. BABATUNDE ADELEKE sampled the opinions of youths on the issue. Their responses:

Having Sex before marriage to ensure compatibility is not logical. Assuming it has been found to be true, prostitutes would have the best of marriages. Marriage is not only about sex. Focusing only on sex to make it work is wrong.

EBENEZER AKINWALE

Have sex if you want to have sex but do not attach sex to a promise of marriage. Except there’s a very good reason for that, perhaps a family tradition. I don’t see why marriage must be based on such an ephemeral condition. Personally, there is no need for sex before marriage.

Premarital sex is not needed; the issue of compatibility can be addressed through proper sex education. Satisfying your partner sexually before marriage will eventually erode trust in the marriage. The man would learn not to take some things that would hinder him from lasting, he would learn to work on his body odour and all these can be done within the confines of healthy sex education.

If you want to have sex, go ahead and have sex but never attach sex to the promise of marriage. If you aim to abstain from sex before marriage, do not be pressured into having sex because you think it is a passport to marriage. Personally, sex before marriage is not needed, you can always be compatible as long as you are both healthy.

I’m for sex before marriage, truth is a lot of marriages have crashed due to complaint from partners. Most complaints border on excessive sex or not having enough sex and even the quality of sex. Moreover, good sex life is one of the ingredients to having happy home. How then would you know this about your partner if there is no sex before the marriage? I’m not saying it’s the best thing to do but going by recent occurrences, it’s better than no sex.

I am of the opinion that premarital sex is a concept in some cultures. In some cultures, it is a strong criterion that the woman must be pregnant before marriage in order to ascertain that she is fertile and can conceive. So I must say that culture has a strong role to play, our culture doesn’t support it and as such, I don’t .

JOSEPH OSHIFESO

I don’t endorse sex before marriage. First, it’s ungodly. In addition, it’s an abnegation of moral law that a woman gives her body, emotions, time and care freely to someone who can enjoy all that and leave her whenever he wants without owing her anything or committing to her in anyway or giving her any rights. Women aren’t meant to be abused, sexualised or made easily available, cheap or accessible to men to use as they please. So, I think both men and women should not give in to urges of the flesh and demoralising themselves. Why not wait till you get married, then you can enjoy all you want in your spouse.

Premarital sex is totally against the will of God. As a young lady or man, we should obey the scriptures which should serve as guide for our existence on earth. Abstaining from premarital sex is necessary to save ourselves from sexual diseases.

CHRISTIANAH AFOLABI

Having premarital sex is a choice not considering the religious ordinances and beliefs.

Sex attached to a promise of marriage is folly and I don’t think anyone in this age should be so emotionally inclined to the extent that it would becloud their sense of reasoning. For me, it’s a No.

OLUWAFEMI AFOLABI

After completing tests on genotypic and phenotypic properties of both parties, I do not believe that sex will effect compatibility in a premarital relationship. It’s a No.

VICTOR IKECHUKWU

It’s a simple No for me. My belief system and upbringing do not support premarital sex. Logically, how can you try to stabilise your marriage by having sex before marriage.?

SEX isn’t enough ground of proving or establishing the fact that you love someone; your level of commitment and sacrifice is the real deal. Sex is joining of two destinies and a lot happens in those few minutes that we cannot imagine. Even sexually transmitted diseases present another risk to engaging in sex before marriage. It’s a no for me, I will not engage in such, neither will I endorse it.

OLATIDE OLADEPO

I am not in support of premarital sex, it’s biblically wrong. Marriage will be boring for those who have seen and done everything before getting married and premarital sex will effectively kill trust in marriage. If a man can have sex with a woman before marriage, he can go on to do the same with other women after marriage.

OYINLADE APATA

I am against sex before marriage for different reasons: Personally, sex before marriage is a sin. Having sex with someone who you are not married to, is a huge risk that no one should take. The promise of marriage is not enough reason to make you take that risk.

 OBANIJESU OLAKUNBI

Sex is an amazing way to bond between couples, although a number of religions frown against sex before marriage. It is almost impossible to stop people from having sex before getting married. Importantly, I believe people should always play safe while they have sex regardless of when they choose to have it or not.
