#WorldDiabetesDay: Be mindful of what you eat, drink – Dr Adeyanju

AS the world marks World Diabetes Day, the Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, has called on all and sundry to be mindful of what they eat and drink as this will go a long way in keeping diabetes at bay.

Dr Adeyanju made the call today while commissioning the Diabetes Association of Nigeria building at the state’s Specialist Complex, Akure.

According to him, millions of Nigerians are believed to be living with diabetes, saying that the way to prevent and control it is by adhering to doctor’s instructions at all times.

Dr Adeyanju, who reiterated the determination of the present government to provide qualitative healthcare, charged diabetes’ patients to always make themselves available for treatments in the health facilities across the state.

Explaining that health is wealth, Dr Adeyanju stressed the need for regular check-up, noting that such would go a long way in helping to know one’s health status.

Earlier, the chairman, Diabetes Association of Nigeria, Professor Sola Falaki, explained that the main objective of the association is to fish out most of the diagnosed diabetes cases in order to prevent complication of the disease, such as stroke, limb amputation, heart attack, kidney failure and eye problems.

He later, expressed appreciation to the government of Ondo State for providing the association with a building and diabetes diagnostic Centre at the State’s Specialist Hospital, Akure.
