A Nigerian, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who was recently elected as the President General of the United Nations Youth, at the organisation’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, will today assume office officially.
Matthew, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr Adeola Badru, on assumption of office, will seek the approval of Security Council to appoint 967 nominees that will work with him across the globe.
The world youth president will be received by diplomats, government officials, head of missions, civil societies and NGOs.
Nigerian Tribune recalled that Ambassador Matthew won the election as the first President General of World Youth Organisation in New Delhi, India, on November 12, 2016, where he polled 1,679 to defeat other eight candidates from the United States, Yemen and Bangladesh.
Mr Matthew, an alumnus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), will run the affairs of the organisation for a remarkable five-year term.
According to the statement, “Ambassador Adeniyi has commenced his official duty by composing five organs for the organisation which are General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship and Secretariat upon winning the election.”
The statement further added that the 967 nominees would make the organisation function effectively and bring coordination across the world.
Among the positions to be occupied are the Chief of Staff to the President General, Principal Secretary, Envoys, Special Representatives, Senior Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistant, Personal Assistant, Head of Parastatals and Agencies.
However, apart from Ambassador Mathew’s transformational drives, the Amazon also won the admiration of United Nations workers and leaders when he spearheaded the passage of the sumptuous Youth Empowerment Schemes bill into law.
