World bank agency to build secondary school in Anambra community

Respite has finally come the way of Umuzu, a hinterland community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state, as they will now have a secondary school through the Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, under the World Bank Assisted Projects

The General Manager of the Agency in the state, Mr Chudi Muojekwu announced the approval of the project when he led members of his team to hand over the cheque for the thirty per cent take-off fund for the project at the Umuzu village, yesterday.

On arrival to Umuzu, a community rarely known by many will only remind you of the bible passage in Matthew 4: 16 “the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light has dawned.”

Thus, the secondary school project carried out through the vulnerable group project of the community and social development programme, CSDP is like a shining light of hope.

According to the project management implementation, the vulnerable group, the Oganiru Widows’ Association, Umuzu identified four projects of their needs out of which two pressing micro-projects were selected: the two blocks of classrooms for the secondary school and equipping of their barren health Centre, before the agency.

In the financing of the projects, the World Bank, the Federal Government and Anambra State Government provide ninety-five per cent of the over seven-point-nine million nairas total cost of the project while the group provides the remaining five per cent which they have provided in Land as equity and Labour.

Addressing members of the Community before the signing of the agreements of the project, the CSDA boss, charged the implementing Committee and community leaders to ensure the speedy completion of the project to meet the educational needs of the community.

The Anambra State CSDA Operations manager, Mrs Uche Nwaizugbo, stressed the importance of ensuring financial transparency in carrying out the project as the Agency abhors uncompleted projects.

The President General of Umuzu, Deacon Cyril Ezekwelu and the Chairperson, Oganiru Widows Association, Umuzu, Mrs Janet Igbobi could not hide their joy.

They described the launch of the project as a dream fulfilled in their lifetime as they can now give their children secondary school education after missing out.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that the launched came to a climax when the General Manager of the CSDA, Mr Muojekwu and the Widows Association Chairperson, Mrs Igbobi signed the project implementation agreement and were handed over the cheque of two million-two-hundred-and-sixty-one-thousand, four-naira and fifty-nine-kobo as thirty per cent kick-off fund.
