Workers are partners in Nigeria’s progress, says NLC President

Nigerian workers have been described as partners towards the nation’s progress, hence the need for governments to make their welfare their priority.

This was stated by the President, Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Waba, at the four-day National Executive Council of the Congress,  in Abeokuta,  the Ogun  State capital.

The NLC boss said that Nigerian workers believed in good governance and political stability, calling on state governors to take good care of their workers.

He lamented that some state governors have the capability to provide for their workers, but would not to do it, because the welfare of their workers is not on their priority list.

He said, “It is not that some states cannot pay their workers salaries as and when due, but it depends on their priority.

” Some governors see workers welfare as a priority, while some others do not.

“However, it must stressed that workers are partners in the Nigerian project. We believe in good governance and stability of the polity.

“We will support the Federal Government on good governance and political stability.”

He appreciated the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration for  making workers welfare its priority, however, appealed to him, to clear the backlogs of deductions of the workers.

The State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Akeem Ambali, equally appealed to the governor to  clear the backlogs of deductions of the civil servants, and contributory pension.
