Workers in Ondo partially joined nationwide NLC strike

On Tuesday, workers in Ondo State partially joined the nationwide strike, with few personnel at the state and federal secretariats reporting for duty in their offices.

It was observed that few offices at the state secretariat opened with one or two senior personnel, while junior workers stayed away from offices.

Speaking on the strike action, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Victor Amoko, said all the affiliated unions had directed members of the union to observe the strike and said the union had gone around to assess the level of compliance.

He said academic activities in primary and secondary were not disturbed by the leaders of the union, who went around to ensure compliance.

Amoko, however, said members of the union and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have joined the ongoing and indefinite nationwide strike as directed by the national secretariats of the two bodies.

He advised workers in the state to comply with the strike directive appropriately.

He said “the strike is basically on issues that affect the attack on the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and the non-implementation of some agreement reached with the Federal Government in the aftermath of fuel subsidy removal.”

The Ondo organised labour leader insisted that the strike was not against the Ondo State government but to protest against impunity in the country.

He called on all affiliate executives of the union to ensure strict compliance with the directive of the national body until the matter is resolved.
