Women, youths protest at INEC office in Sokoto, demand reversal of inconclusive decision

Women and youths in Sokoto converge at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), office in Sokoto on Tuesday to protest against the inconclusive decision of the Commission over the Gubernatorial election in Sokoto.

The protesters, led by the first lady of the State, Hajia Mariam Tambuwal, wife of the former Governor of the State, Hajia Jemila Bafarawa barricades the major roads that lead to the office of INEC, adjacent the office of the Department of State security services.

The protesting Women which includes three serving Commissioners Prof A’isha Madawaki, Dr Kulu Abubakar and Hajia Kulu Sifawa described the inconclusive status as injustice and called on the electoral body to declared Governor Aminu Tambuwal as the winner.

They conduct peaceful domostration on the protests to tell the world,  women position in the state and enjoined INEC to declared people choice for continues sustenance of peaceful coexistence in the state.

Sifawa, who is the Commissioner for women affairs said Tambuwal was duly elected by majority votes and run a women-friendly more than any government in the history of the state.

The state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Kulu Abubakar, said women from the 23 local government areas of the state are in support of their peaceful protests.

” All we need is justice which is declaring Tambuwal as the Governor-elect which is the wishes of electorates,” Abubakar said.

Also speaking at the demonstration rally,  state PDP Women leader, Hajia Rabi Iyawa, criticised INEC treatment to PDP candidates in the concluded governorship election.

Among the demonstrators were Permanent Commissioner in Sokoto State Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hajia Fatima Illo among others.

Also protesting at the INEC head office were youths that also display different placards demanding the immediate announcement of the results of Gubernatorial elections in the State.

The leader of the group, Muhammad Aliyu, who spoke with our correspondent demanded the immediate reversal of the inconclusive decision.

He described the INEC decision as a means to deny the people of the State their choice, saying, ” No amount of intimidation will deny us our choice.
