Women to block all entrances to NASS on resumption, to negotiate win-able seats

All entrances into the National Assembly would be blocked on resumption of legislative duties by lawmakers, by Nigerian women to press home their demand for elective seats.

Founder, Nigerian Women in Politics (WIN), Barrister Ebere Ifendu said this on her 55th birthday in Abuja.

According to her, “by the time they come back to the National Assembly, we are going back. we had a deal like they want to play a fast one. I doubt if they will have access to the National Assembly.”

She said that the pre-convention period offered Nigerian women the opportunity to negotiate win-able seats across the country leveraging all the strong political persons in their respective locality for the women.

IN CASE YOU MISSED THESE FROM NIGERIAN TRIBUNE

According to her, such a measure would advance the population of Nigerian women in politics, where they are able to get the buy-in of the political leaders in their respective political domains.

Ifendu said: “For me, this is a time to negotiate with party leaders and stakeholders, to give women win-able seats.

”There are winning seats, when the leader is strong, within his locality and he gives you the tickets to run definitely, with or without campaigning you will win because his name is what people will be voting for, not you.

”So these are the seats that we want to negotiate now for more women to win. We are happy that we have 35% affirmative action, when it is time for enforcement of the law we would pursue it.”
