Women are nation-builders —Abimbola Fashola

WIFE of former Lagos governor and Minister of Power, Works and Housing,  Mrs Abimbola Fashola, has counselled Nigerian women going into politics or those already into it not to allow the glamour of office to throw them off balance to forget their primary responsibilities as mothers and wives in their various houses.

Mrs Fashola gave the charge while speaking at the birthday party of the Chief Executive Officer of Ankara L’anta, Ebunoluwa Ashiwaju, held recently at Best Western hotels, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State.

She noted that if good values are not inculcated in children, especially through good motherly care, it will in turn continue to have a negative influence on the Nigerian society.

According to her, “women should know that their first job and call is the home front, especially those going into politics. You must be ready to be yourselves and not allow the glamour of office  to take you away from your responsibility at home; children and husband.

“Be yourself, say it the way it is; not everybody will like you.  But be truthful, know your limitations and love God.”

She added that while her husband was the governor of Lagos state, no matter how busy his schedule was, she always ensured that she had personal chat with her husband before both retired to their beds.

She also added that she was particular about training her children as wards of the family and never allowed them to be raised up as children of a state governor.

She added that women must know their desires in life and channel their energy on good things, insisting that they must manage their home effectively irrespective of the nature of their job.

On her part, the celebrant said women should learn how to turn unpleasant situations to their advantage. She encouraged women to network and to never give up on God and themselves.

Ashiwaju stated that she decided to bring 50 women together on her birthday to share experience, network and learn from each other.

“It had always been my dream to bring women together and share my dreams,” she said, adding that “she hoped to continue the project on a quarterly or annual basis.”

At the event were wife of the Ooni of Ife, Her Royal Majesty, Prophetess Naomi-Silekunola Ogunwusi, popular gospel musician, Sister Tope Alabi and other top women in the society.
