Without TetFUND intervention, tertiary education would have been in shambles ― ATBU VC

Published by

It has been observed that without the intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Nigeria Tertiary education sector will have been in shambles considering the degree of infrastructure decay in all of the Universities and other Tertiary institutions in the country.

The observation was made by the Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, (ATBU), Bauchi, Prof Muhammad Ahmad Abdulazeez while speaking at the commissioning ceremony of TETFund projects in the university on Tuesday.

The VC, therefore, called on the management of the TETFund to as a matter of necessity take over the maintenance of structures other than its own across the country tertiary institutions in order to keep them in good shape for maximum output.

He added that the exclusion of TETFund from undertaking roads construction within the universities should be revisited in order to provide access to some of the magnificent structures built by the Fund stating that, “so far, TetFUND has acquainted itself very creditably. We are proud that our own Prof Suleiman Elias Bogoro is now in the driver’s seat. The difference is clear.”

The four projects funded by the TETFund which were commissioned included Central Laboratory Block at Gubi Campus; College of Medicine (Phase II) also at Gubi Campus. Clinical Complex, College of Medicine, ATBU Teaching Hospital; Center for Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship Development in Tafawa Balewa town of Tafawa-Balewa LGA.

The VC then assured that the University will put the structures into good use to raise students who are academically sound because according to him, “with these structures on the ground, the students have no choice but to study hard to make a future for themselves.”
