Will Pastor Bakare make a better Christian VP?

RECENTLY, a friend and I, had an inconclusive back-and-forth about the self-proclaimed presidential prophesy of Pastor Tunde Bakare, of Latter Rain Assembly, for 2023. We didn’t agree because we had divergent panorama of his proclamation that heavens had decreed his succession to Muhammadu Buhari, his older friend, about three years from now. Because the man-of-God said the prophesy was of God, and I hold the Oil is still flowing on his head, I believed, for the Word is forever settled. My friend, though a Christian, chose not to be so spiritual about it. He held Bakare is being driven by pure ambition, which, to him, isn’t realizable for now even if Team Buhari is decidedly settled on South-West for 2023 and a Christian candidate. My friend, is a Yemi Osinbajo man, tokantokan (in all entirety).

I chose to believe Bakare this time, because he was truthful last time. As running-mate to Candidate Buhari in 2011, the man of God confessed that he wasn’t running a divine errand, but just consumed by passion for a better Nigerian society, under the Buhari presidency. Well, the much-desired Buhari presidency is here and everything but the Utopian, is being dished Nigerians on a daily basis. It is a good thing that the real divine project of Bakare in Aso Rock is that of C-in-C and not of second calabash, that could be a nunu (local milk) bowl one moment, and loo-water container, the next breath.

By divine arrangement, I believe, Buhari still ended up with a pastor as VP who until recently, appeared to just be waiting for his coronation in the next election circle. While the C-in-C’s desire many have for him, is almost drying up as powerful and connected hands splashed mud on him, a call is even yet to be made on if he was the most suitable Christian VP, to represent the Body of Christ, in Nigeria’s power equations. At the crescendo of his political storm, Bakare’s name popped up as a suitable replacement for those seeking Osinbajo’s scalp and instead of dousing the fire, the Latter Rain man came out swinging with his presidential prophesy, as if to say, even if I become number two, graduation awaits me after the tutelage under Mai Gaskiya. Without doubt, what came as a cheeky warning from Osinbajo’s spiritual dad, Daddy G.O, harried the hawks a bit. Nothing however suggests they are done, seeking what is believed to be their pounds of flesh, off Osinbajo’s bare back, and as long as those political punks operating from Lake Chad neighbourhood of Abuja, remain restless and unrelenting, Bakare won’t be disappearing from presidential debates till somethings give way between Osinbajo and the head-shavers around the president. It is either God deals brutally with them as calculated by Daddy G.O, or they get to deal with the VP, that maliciously too. I doubt if I want any party to the power shenanigans destroyed. I seek God’s mercy for the wolves and the sheep that chose to hunt with them.

When news got out Bakare looked the VP part and could be drafted in, to play it, till the end of Buhari’s second term (Supreme Court will no doubt validate the electoral heresy of 2019), many Nigerians, particularly Christians, endlessly salivated over the possibility of the mini-regime change in Aso Rock.

Without doubt, many Christians have had the perceived lethargy and atimes anti-Christian posturing of Pastor Osinbajo, to the cusp of their esophagus and retching exit of their tongues. Until recently, when CAN began a flip-flop on his ordeals, the VP was almost a pariah in Christendom, not much less within the RCCG, over his perceived lackadaisical attitude to the yoke hewn the Body of Christ, by killer Fulani herdsmen, Islamic terrorists and the growing community of kidnappers and bombers. Interestingly, there is a relational part of the president, to each of the plague-carrier. The president was once a loud voice for Boko Haram and a golden nominee for dialogue with Goodluck Jonathan presidency. He is the number one Miyetti Allah, the covering-association for the Fulani terrorists and has consistently made a case for them, even when in their worst murderous, psychopathic element.

So the VP is considered spineless, for perceivably not standing up to his boss, his race and killer bokoto-business associates. Statements and actions, particularly his handling of the RUGA madness, crashed his ratings. Many Christians regretted having a dove like him, representing their interest. The usual spark in Bakare’s eyes, are sending many to the dreamland. The near consensus is that Buhari is undeserving of a Yemi Osinbajo, who is taking the whole of Matthew 11:29 to heart, in administrative obedience. They reasoned that the president’s senses can only be sensitive to the colouration of the nation, for once, having a fire-eating, smoke-smudging Southerner, deputizing him. Bakare’s toughie-persona, fits their perceptional cut.

Certainly, all genuine Christians are to be Christ-like and He is very clear about what we should transform into after our new birth and sanctification. Divine wisdom, which only God can give, however, is central to the Christ-like personality we must bear. I have encountered both Bakare and Osinbajo at close quarters. The VP could walk pass you unnoticed. Despite being almost of same height and lean stature, Bakare is always an unmissable sight. That difference is called charisma, which will not take anything away from Osinbajo’s muted confidence. Auras are different. The problem with Osinbajo is the greasy energy, coming with playing a submissive subordinate or subordinated VP. It doesn’t have to be the intrusively perjorative dobosi yes sir (doddering genuflecting). It is an act that can still be cleaned up. For Bakare, the street have something like oju pipon ko light cigar (combustion won’t achieve all things). The Bible says, Wisdom is profitable to guide. Once that is missing, the dove will be easily roasted and hawk, guided into a cage. My choice, however, won’t be difficult if a pick must be made between the two. Well-put-together men, always have the reserved recess of my heart.
