We will not stop anti-Buhari protest until…―Charley boy

RESUME or resign group led by an ace musician, Charley Oputa, popularly known as Charley Boy, on Wednesday, insisted to continue its protest against long vacation of President Muhammadu Buhari in London hospital, saying it could not be distracted or frustrated to shelve the protest.

“Those who attacked me were miscreant youths. They were youths that have been brainwashed. They were youths that were not thinking well and that is what we at Our Mumu Don Do campaign is trying to do, to create enough awareness to know that those kind of attitude, those kind of mannerism cannot work in the Nigeria of the future and I know part of this problem is hunger, frustration, poverty and hopelessness because the kids have no job”, the leader of the group, Charley Boy declared.

Addressing newsmen at the Unity Fountain, Maitama, Abuja, Charley Boy said: “I don’t think we will stop this protest anytime soon because this is a fight for the Nigeria of our dream and I keep saying that until the youth wake up, nothing is ever going to change.

“I want the government to be more responsible, I want the government to be more sensitive to the people it seems to serve and government should always understand that they are not more than masses, they are servants and until they understand that nothing will change”, he added.

In their own walk protest to the State House in support of President Buhari, a group known as Niger Delta led by Chief Jonny Michael said those who were calling for the resignation of ailing president were being sponsored by political opponent.

He stressed that the sponsors of anti-Buhari protest were people of questionable characters who were hell-bent in thwarting the fight against corruption crusade of the present administration.

According to him, “we are in total support of President Buhari and we are here to pass our vote of confidence on him. We support one Nigeria. For how else can one interpret the musings of some people who claim that President Buhari should either discharge himself from the treatment regime in the United Kingdom and immediately return to Nigeria or throw in the towel and resign from elected office of President?

“Granted that the absence of the President due to ill health is a cause for concern to every well meaning Nigeria, I mean, ‘concern’ that he should regain his good health speedily. And that alone, for beyond that, I see no other issue, legal or constitutional, which his ill health engages”, he explained.

The group came with various descriptions which read: “Niger Delta in total support for President Buhari; we cannot say government is not working when the president is sick; Isoko youth support Buhari, PDP stop anti-Buhari protest; Buhari, we are praying for you; Epie youth support Buhari; Uhrobo support Buhari; Istekiri youth support Buhari; as well as Buhari was only sick, not corrupt and success is not a crime.”

Addressing the Niger Delta protesters, the Special Adviser to the president on Media, Mr Femi Adesina, assured them to pass the message to the appropriate quarters.
