Governor Nyesom Wike, Rivers State
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has advised the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to live up to its responsibility as conferred on it by its victory at the 2015 presidential election and desist from giving flimsy excuses.
He gave the admonition on Friday while flagging off the dredging/sand filling and reclamation of Abalama in Asari-Toru Local Government Area and dredging/sand filling and reclamation of Bakana in Degema Local Government Area, spanning 38 hectares.
Wike, in a statement by his media aide, Simeon Nwakausdu, said the state government was redefining politics in Nigeria by ensuring that campaign promises were kept.
“We are redefining the pattern of politics in Nigeria. You cannot use people and dump them. We cannot give everyone money, but we can execute projects that everybody will benefit from”, he said.
The governor said the APC-led Federal Government has failed to live up to the expectation of Nigerians, adding, “We are not like those who said they will make one naira to be equal one dollar. Instead of actualising their promise, they are busy giving excuses”.
He urged the Federal Government to settle down and focus on fulfilling the several promises it made to Nigerians, adding that APC got the mandate on the strength of its promises to Nigerians.
Governor Wike said it was uncharitable for the APC-led government to be pointing fingers pointing when it should be working, adding, “Instead of working to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, they are blaming the previous administration.”
He, however, said the dredging, sand filing and reclamation projects which run through the three Kalabari local government areas in Rivers State, would entrench development in the area.
“The last time I came here for campaigns, I promised that if you support me to win, I will carry out some projects. That is why I have come to fulfil my promise. We in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), when we make promise, we fulfill it. Tell those who make promises and never fulfill them not to come and deceive you,” he said.
