Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has announced that he would revoke the Certificate of Occupancy of Novotel Hotel Port Harcourt, Rivers State for involving itself in election manipulation in Rivers State.
The Governor has consequently ordered his Special Adviser on Land, Anubgum Onuoha, to begin the process of revocation of certificate of occupancy given Novotel Hotel in Port Harcourt.
Giving the order during the second session of the Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Evo in Port Harcourt, Wike stated that the hotel was now serving as centre for rigging elections in Rivers State.
He said the hotel rather than focus on doing genuine business has become a centre for creating crises adding that it was regrettable that owners of the hotel had turned it to centre for election manipulation and creating confusion.
The Governor alleged that the hotel was used to manipulate the non-elective local government delegate congress of the All Progressive Congress APC at the weekend and that the hotel was also used to create crisis during the December 10, 2016 re-run elections in Rivers State.
Wike said, “I didn’t know they are not interested in doing hotel business. So I have told the Special Adviser on Land that we cannot allow a hotel which allowed themselves to be used to perpetrate crime. We must revoke their certificate of occupancy of Novotel.”
“I have no choice than to revoke C of O that hotel.”
He castigated the APC for not being able to conduct themselves in and orderly manner berating them for their inability to conduct a peaceful ordinary non-elective congress.
He stated, “Ordinary non-elective election you cannot do you want to stay in the hotel. Anybody that thinks that what happened in the December 10 re-run election they will replicate in 2019 should have a rethink.”
Governor wike said that while his government would continue to support investors and investments in the state, he would not tolerate any investors or investments that are coming to the state to create confusion and cause crisis.
Recall that Novotel Hotel situated on Ken Saro Wiwa Road (Stadium Road) prominently featured at last week non-elective local government delegate congress of the All progressives Congress APC Rivers State in which a faction of the party claimed was manipulated by the party leaders to favour another faction of the party.
