Wike doing enough to combat insecurity in FCT — Arewa group

Published by

Arewa Youth Assembly has said that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has put necessary measures in the nation’s capital territory to enhance security.

The Assembly was reacting to a statement credited to the Senator Representing FCT at the Red Chamber, Ireti Kingibe where she allegedly said that the FCT Minister is displaying “I don’t care attitude” towards the security of the FCT.

The Speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly, Mohammed Salihu Danlami in reaction to the statement, said it doesn’t require rocket science to know that Wike, since his appointment as FCT Minister, has remained committed to securing the lives and protecting the properties of Abuja residents

The group also said that the FCT Minister has significantly impacted other areas of infrastructural development, economic empowerment, social welfare, sustainable development, and community engagement.

“For the purpose of this write-up and as a refresher to Sen. Ireti and her co-travelers, it is imperative to highlight some of the efforts of The Honourable Minister in curbing the security challenges that have befallen the Federal Capital Territory”, the statement said.

To ensure the safety and security of lives and properties of Abuja residents, the Assembly said Wike has “approved the formation of two joint-security task forces comprising all security agencies domiciled in the FCT to curtail the activities of one-chance syndicates, armed robbers, kidnappers, and all forms of criminality within the Territory and its environs.

“Implemented a digital security monitoring and control system within the current FCT transport management system and charged security agencies with profiling FCT Uber Drivers to help curb insecurity.

“Mandated the holding of monthly security meetings of the six area councils aimed at improving the security situation in their respective area councils.

“Given the directive for setting up two new divisional police stations in the Gwagwalada community for law enforcement and curbing criminal activities in the area.

“Provided vehicles for security agencies, communication gadgets, as well as motorcycles to support local vigilance groups, to help provide security agencies with necessary information.

“Collaborated with neighboring states of Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, and Kaduna to exploit areas of joint security outfits, intelligence sharing, provision of the needed logistics support, and more to mitigate these security challenges.

“Worked constantly in harmony with the heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, Chairmen of Area Councils, and other critical stakeholders in the territory.

“Conducted massive operations by security outfits that have led to the neutralization and arrests of bandits and their informants.

“Announced readiness and willingness to partner with the State of Qatar to develop the tourism sector and improve security in the nation’s capital”.

The group added that the heavy security deployment in and around FCT Abuja, especially in the Bwari area, based on security intelligence, guarantees the safety of residents.
