The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has called for collaboration with the Chinese government on agricultural development and IT education for youths in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
Wike made this known on Tuesday when the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Yu Dunhai, paid him a courtesy call in his office.
The minister justified the partnership with the Chinese government in agricultural development, highlighting that Abuja is well-suited for farming.
Wike said, “I would like us to also partner in terms of agriculture. It’s very key. We have very good land for whatever kind of farm. So it would interest us more if we can partner on that.”
The minister emphasised that youth empowerment is crucial, noting that education for the youth is essential for progress. “So, like you said, the youth is key,” he added.
“So these are two very important areas I would like us to cooperate on, partner together, and see what we can do to establish a symbiotic relationship. And then the vocational school, particularly as it relates to ICT.”
The minister recalled his visit to China with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for bilateral talks between China and Nigeria, during which he disclosed that the FCT had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two Chinese companies, CGC and CCECC, to carry out water and streetlight projects.
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Yu Dunhai, stated that the aim of his visit to the FCT Minister was to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Dunhai commended the minister for the noticeable development in the city under his leadership.
“As the Chinese Ambassador, I would like to reconfirm our commitment to this very important bilateral relationship,” Dunhai emphasised.
