Why you shouldn’t have missed Cyber Monday

Published by

Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving in the United States and is one of the biggest online shopping days of the year.

It was introduced as a counterpart to Black Friday, focusing on e-commerce deals and discounts rather than in-store promotions.

The term was first coined in 2005 by Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Scott Silverman to encourage online shopping. Since then, it has become a global phenomenon, with retailers worldwide offering significant online discounts on electronics, fashion, and other products.

This year, Cyber Monday, which took place on Monday, December 2, 2024, featured many exciting online shopping deals.

Missing Cyber Monday can be likened to missing out on significant savings, a wide selection of products, and the convenience of online shopping.

In this article, Tribune Online explains why you shouldn’t have missed Cyber Monday.

1. Unbeatable Discounts

Cyber Monday is synonymous with unbeatable discounts, often surpassing Black Friday’s. This year, consumers were expected to spend a record $13.2 billion, underscoring the event’s popularity and the wide-ranging deals available. Retailers offered significant markdowns on electronics, home goods, fashion, and more, making it the perfect time to buy high-ticket items at reduced prices.

2. A Wide Range of Products

Cyber Monday featured extensive products, from cutting-edge techs like laptops and smart home devices to practical essentials and unique gifts. Popular deals included the iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ robot vacuum, discounted from $1,000 to $700, and a Ninja air fryer, reduced from $160 to $142. This variety catered to diverse needs and preferences, ensuring something for everyone.

3. Online Shopping Convenience

Cyber Monday stands out for its convenience, allowing shoppers to browse and purchase from home, avoiding the crowds of physical stores. Retailers improved their online platforms this year, streamlining the search for deals and price comparisons. Tools like Google Shopping’s updated “deals” feature and AI shopping assistants made navigating discounts even easier.

4. Smart Shopping Tools

Shoppers also benefited from tools that enhanced the buying experience. Platforms like Keepa and CamelCamelCamel provided historical pricing data for informed decisions, while Wirecutter and Slickdeals curated lists of the best deals to help consumers find quality products at competitive prices.

5. Early Holiday Shopping

Cyber Monday is an excellent opportunity to get ahead on holiday shopping. Many shoppers secured gifts for friends and family, maximising their budgets with discounts. Missing out on the event often means facing higher prices and busier shopping periods later in the festive season.
