When applying eye makeup, it is important to keep in mind that the skin around the eye is very sensitive. Using eye shadow that has stayed for too long on the shelf  will cause irritation. Excess mascara and eyeliner may slow down the growth of eyelashes, and will also increase the risk of bacteria in the eyes which can lead to infection. The brow pencil must be of good quality. During application, care should be taken so that it doesn’t exceed the appropriate position of the brows. Also, the pencil should be blunt to limit the risk of injury.

According to studies, chemicals such as parabens, which include ethyl-paraben, butyl-paraben, and isopropyl-paraben are used as preservatives to prevent bacterial growth in cosmetics. Parabens can cause various allergic reactions like skin irritation, blotches and blemishes on the skin.

Another is salicylate which can cause an outbreak of painful rashes or hives, if you have sensitive skin. In some cases, the allergies do not appear in time but after long use of the product, which contains the chemical. As such, it is advisable you study the ingredients used in making the products and get a clear understanding of them.
