Why we need to take gender into consideration in programme design, implementation —Alaafin

THE Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has stated the reasons why gender concern should be taken into account in programme design and implementation. 

According to the traditional ruler, taking gender concerns into account when designing population and developmental programme is important because of the systemic difference between men and women. 

He said this recently during the conferment of awards on him and some other eminent Nigerians by the International Academy for Gender and peace (IAGP) and its Academy Partner, Espam Formation University to the traditional ruler on Saturday at Mauve 21 Event Centre, Ibadan. 

The awardees include the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji; Principal Consultant, Gabaks Consulting, Mr Ayo Akano; Emir of Borgu, Muhammed Dantoro; Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao; Oore of Otun -Ekiti, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo; President Alliance of Yoruba Youths Group and Chief Executive Officer, Easy Prevarsity Educonsult Dr Kazeem Akande, Chief Executive Officer, Kingstar Educational Consultancy Services, Dr Popoola Victor, among others.

The traditional ruler, who was decorated as the patron of the International Academy for Gender and Peace, during the investiture, expressed concern over the inability of women to have access to resources and opportunities.
