The publisher, National Globe Magazine (NGM), Moses Oladipupo, says the recent award given to some community leaders in Ijebuland was based on the collective opinion of Ijebu people at home and in the diaspora.
Oladipupo made this known at the occasion where individuals who have excelled in the areas of public services, philanthropic gesture, politics, among others were given awards.
He said that the committee set up for the event did not just pick anyone for the award, reiterating that everything was based on due process.
“We did not just give the award. We followed due process in our selection and ensured that the awardees met certain criteria before they were selected. We also ensured that such persons have strong character, significant economic establishment in Ijebuland and also are engaged in impacting the social development of the land,” Oladipupo said.
He further said that the programme was organised to encourage indigenes of Ijebuland to use part of what God has endowed them with to develop their communities.
Chairman of the event, Chief Olatokunbo Olukoya, who was represented by the Akufon of Idarika, Oba Olugbenga Shomade, advised media practitioners to always balance their stories.
He pleaded with journalists to ensure that community events across the nooks and crannies of Ijebuland are published so as to let indigenes in the diaspora know what is happening at home.
Also, Oba Isiaka Olajide Ajede commended the publisher for organising such a programme, just as he called on other monarchs in Ijebuland to support the organiser both in kind and cash to ensure community is progressing.
Some of the personalities honoured at the event include Chief Adetayo Adenuga, as the Ijebu Man of 2024; Prince Oyebanjo Amos Olusegun, as the Ijebu Man of the Year on Human Development and Social Integration; Prince Adelaja Adenuga, as People’s Ambassador of the Year; Prince Segun Odunuga Kaka, as Ijebu man of the year on Legislative Governance, Chief Olufemi Olukayode Otukoya, as the Oloolu of Odo Oba Fidipote, Ago-Iwoye and Olaitan Agboola, as the Ijebu Ambassador of the year 2024.
