THE council of Out- of- Home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), has explained that the decision to adopt a new name for the association was informed by the need to prepare it for the 21st Century opportunities and challenges, and make it abreast of developments around the globe.
The association’s president, Chief Emma Ajufo, stated that though the name change still awaits ratifications from the relevant regulatory quarters, he however expressed the belief that when eventually formalized, it would offer a wider platform for more practitioners in the out-of-home advertising business to be part of the association.
According to him, while the association still maintains the acronym, OAAN, the former name, Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria has, however, given way to a new name, Out of Home Advertising Association of Nigeria.
Also speaking on the name change, the association’s Secretary General, Mr. Sola Akinsiku, stated that the new name would be formally unveiled when the necessary processes with the regulatory authorities have been concluded.
He explained that the decision to have a name change was arrived at, at the association’s last EGM, held recently, in Lagos, featuring the association’s executives.
“We believe with the new name, the association would be able to reach out to many practitioners in the out-of-home business, who have not been part of us because of the limiting nomenclature of the association.
“For instance, any advertisements that you see when you step out of your house, should be a part and part of us. For instance, those you see within the shopping malls are not really outdoor advertisement, since they are indoor, but still belong to the out-of-home category. So the name change is a way of widening our horizon,” he added.
