Why Tinubu’s tax reform bills are not good for Northern states — Gov Bala

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed his reservations about President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills, asserting that they are not favorable to Northern states and could have far-reaching negative consequences.

Speaking on Thursday during a meeting with the Christian community in Bauchi, Mohammed stated that the reforms are designed to benefit certain parts of the country, a move he warned could lead to unrest.

He argued that the policy would disadvantage the North, making it challenging for state governors in the region to meet financial obligations such as paying salaries.

“To the tax reforms- it is not a good policy for northern Nigeria because we are not going to get money to pay you salaries.

“They must listen, otherwise, they are calling for anarchy, and that is not good. We voted for the president in the state and other states.

“They must listen to us! They must not come up with a policy that favors only one state in the country.

“It is not about religion. It is not about tribe. It is about national unity. It is about national hegemony,” the governor said.

Mohammed further stressed the importance of good leadership, warning that if the situation remains unchanged, the Northern governors would take action.

“We are all about good leadership, and we will continue to urge them for the time being, but if the situation persists, they will see our real color. We are going to fight for it,” he concluded.
