Why police invited Mr Ibu’s children – Ex-manager, Chochoo, clarifies

In a recent turn of events, Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of Nollywood comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, provides clarity on the recent involvement of the police with the actor’s family.

The incident involves Mr Ibu’s wife, their adopted daughter, Jasmine, and two of their sons, Daniel and Val. The situation concerns a dispute over the signatory to Mr Ibu’s bank account amidst his current health crisis.

On Wednesday evening, it was all over social media that Mr Ibu’s wife, Stella Maris, ordered their arrests following weeks of banter over the signatory to the actor’s account.

A Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala, shared the news on Instagram that Jasmine and the actor’s sons were arrested and detained at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, over claims that Jasmine moved N300 million donated to the ailing actor from his account.

“Jasmine and Ibu’s sons were arrested at Alagbon Police Station. They are detained there. Ibu’s wife alleged that Jasmine moved N300 million out of the account. Ibu’s wife allegedly wanted them to buy her new house from the money contributed so far for Ibu’s treatments. That’s why she arrested Jasmine. But investigation states that the money contributed isn’t even up to N300 million,” she wrote.

However, Chochoo confirmed that all three persons were invited by the police over the actor’s account.
“Yes, they were all invited by the police. I won’t call it arrest; the police invited them over Mr Ibu’s account. However, Val is left out as he knows nothing about what’s been happening. He just returned to the country. I have not been able to reach any of them,” he said.

Stella Maris, Mr Ibu’s wife, has, however remained silent and has refused to talk about the whole situation. This silence further complicates the situation and leaves room for speculation.

Mr Ibu, one of Nollywood’s most beloved figures, has been facing severe health challenges, leading to public appeals for aid. The actor has undergone multiple surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs. His health condition and the ongoing family dispute have stirred sympathy and concern among his fans and the broader public.
