Why I’m into politics – Adelabu

The gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Bayo Adelabu, has reiterated his resolve to take governance back to the people by reviving the Adegoke Adelabu (Penkelemesi) legacy.

He, however, said the legacy was not to rubbish that of the incumbent governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, adding that, instead, he is bridging modernity with the grassroots to make Oyo State great.

He disclosed this at a parley with youths and influencers on social media platforms, where he also introduced himself and stated his plans for the state, if elected.

Speaking on his foray into politics, having served as deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Adelabu said he got interested in the present administration of Governor Ajimobi, who, he said, had raised the bar in modern politics and opened doors for real development.

He also said another factor that influenced his decision was the shift in the political consciousness of the youth and professionals, adding that his experience and success in politics would, therefore, serve as an encouragement for other technocrats, in order for them to bring to bare, their wealth of experience for the benefit of the people.

The governorship candidate said he would also use the opportunity to renew the legacy of Penkelemesi, adding, however, that it would not negate the legacy of Ajimobi as many had insinuated.

“Ajimobi’s legacy can be seen in infrastructure, health, education, security, agriculture, etc.

“If you merge the two legacies, you are going to have the best: harmonising politics of social stimulation with that of development focus and developmental activities.

“I’m using this medium to clear the air on the Penkelemesi legacy, because the rumours in town is that Adelabu is coming to rubbish Ajimobi’s legacy. Nobody can wipe off any name that is accepted or acceptable to the people.

“Penkelemesi is the father of grassroot politics and Ajimobi is the father of modern politics,” he said.
He likened the present scenario with what played out in Lagos State where a former governor and national leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, laid the foundation for a new Lagos and the next governor after him, Babatunde Fashola, built on the success.

He, in fact, named himself “the Fashola of Oyo State,” adding that the modern Oyo State had been carefully panned out by Governor Ajimobi and he (Adelabu) would have no problem hitting the ground running from the first day of duty come May 29, 2019.
