It is not only uncommon to find a music artist who is an author, but totally uncharacteristic to find one who is on top of the game and also aspires to be an established author. Such is the case of international artist, entrepreneur, executive producer, and CEO of Str8Team Entertainment, George Yungo, a.k.a. Big Hookz, who only recently authored his first book titled “From the Music to the Money.”.
Big Hookz, who was born and raised in Cameroon, lived in Hamburg, Germany, and is currently plying his music trade in the Metropolitan Area (DC, Maryland, Virginia), USA, is an independent artist who knows the pains of standing alone and winning alone in the stormy waters of the music world. According to him, the book was inspired by his struggles and the need to show emerging and upcoming artists the ropes and the work involved in making it in the music business.
“The book, “From the Music to the Money,” which can be found on Amazon and Kindle, is about me sharing my experiences as an artist, manager, and entrepreneur in the music industry and giving industry tips for every aspiring artist.
“The inspiration came from me also managing other artists, and I discovered the lack of experience and knowledge of most of these artists in terms of understanding themselves as artists, the different aspects of building and developing themselves as artists and also understanding the music business overall,” he said.
Big Hookz said his first book would not be the last, as he hopes to write more books about the pros and cons of the music industry, particularly in the interest of aspiring and emerging artists who are clueless about the industry and thus are soft targets for exploitation.
However, the Afrobeats and hip-hop star is gearing up for his next project, which is a single, “No Competition,” set to hit major streaming platforms worldwide on April 4, 2024.
According to him, “The uniqueness of the track is the sound and vocal delivery, which came from me just in competition with myself, that’s me versus me, finding ways to evolve highly and challenging myself to reach a certain height and level with my goal, not competing with anyone, and just dominating my sector. The song also features a great artist from Cameroon called MKA Ghost, based in Houston, Texas, and the producer of the song is from Nigeria called “Executive Scott,” who works with Marvin Records.”
Big Hookz, who revealed that his role model is Master P, said his fans should also be expecting a great body of work on an afrobeat album coming out around the end or beginning of June 2024. He also added that a mix of Afrobeat and hip-hop EPs is coming out towards the end of the summer / fourth quarter.
“I also have some singles collaborations with some dope artists that will be dropping prior to the album. I have some concerts and shows lined up, which all my fans can follow and see on my social media platforms. I will also be doing charity events and philanthropic work in some countries in Africa, like April 20th in Sierra Leone and the Heal the World concert/event to give back to the less privileged, orphanages, and schools after the event.
Also, in May 23–25, I plan to be in Nigeria for the Heal the World concert or event and in South Africa and Kenya; the date needs to be determined,” he affirmed.
Big Hookz has stayed true to the game, savouring a chunk of success along the way. He has 6 albums and 4 mixtapes to his credit. Some of his singles actually disrupted the scene, creating a buzz that put the artist on a grand pedestal.
“Right With You got over 1.5 million streams and downloads, just as “Break You Down” raked up over 1.2 million streams and downloads. “Pull Out Cash,” “No Days Off,” and “Never Settle for Less” revved up 3 million, 5 million, and 3 million streams and downloads, respectively.
